Italy healthcare services launch new specialized care programs

Health authorities in Italy are implementing new specialized care models to address specific community needs. In Bari, the ASL Bari Neuropsychiatry unit has launched the third edition of the ‘Segui l’Onda’ project. This initiative uses the Lido del Comando dei Vigili del Fuoco in Giovinazzo to provide therapeutic and rehabilitative services for approximately 25 children and adolescents. The program integrates hydrokinesitherapy for neuromotor disabilities with psychiatric rehabilitation and social skill development through group activities.

In Rome, ASL Roma 3 has introduced an integrated multidisciplinary care pathway for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Aiming to combat the rising incidence of infections such as HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HPV, the new model seeks to reduce diagnosis and treatment times. The process consists of four stages: counseling and information, diagnosis and testing, targeted treatment, and follow-up support. This initiative aligns with the National AIDS Plan to improve epidemiological surveillance and hospital-territory response.
