Italy highlights regional heritage in Maremma and Sardinia

Italy's regional cultural heritage is highlighted through the historical significance of Montorio and the 25th anniversary of the 'Autunno in Barbagia' festival in Sardinia.

In the Maremma region, the settlement of Montorio offers a glimpse into ancient history. Situated on a rocky outcrop, the area features a castle first documented in 1043. The territory has a complex history of control involving the Aldobrandeschi family, the government of Orvieto, and the Monaldeschi family.

In Sardinia, the 'Autunno in Barbagia' event celebrates its 25th year, aiming to revitalize inland communities through traditional crafts, gastronomy, and architecture. Running from September 5 to mid-December, the circuit includes 33 stages across various towns such as Nuoro, Oliena, and Bitti. The initiative showcases local excellence in ceramics, jewelry, woodworking, and music to promote regional identity and tourism.
