Italy holds commemorations for Liberation and partisan anniversaries

Various Italian municipalities are organizing ceremonies to commemorate the anniversaries of the Liberation from Nazi-fascist rule during World War II.

In Pescia, a multi-day program of remembrance will take place from September 5 to September 8. The events include laying flowers at various memorial plaques, such as those honoring Giorgio Ercolini and Rosario Pavone, as well as Miriam Cardini and Iris Stiavelli. The commemorations will conclude on September 8 with a mass at the Church of San Francesco and an official ceremony at the War Memorial in Piazza Mazzini.

In Alessandria, the CISL union will hold a ceremony on September 11 to mark the 82nd anniversary of the massacre of four partisans—Luigi Caruzzo, Mario Lottero, Carlo Parodi, and Leonardo Viizzo—who were killed in via Tripoli in 1944. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Gold Medal for Military Valor awarded to the Province of Alessandria. The event will include an exhibition of student works from the competition ‘La Libertà: prima di un Diritto, è un Dovere’ (Freedom: Before a Right, it is a Duty).
