National Polar Conference in Rome targets new research White Paper

The First National Polar Conference concluded in Rome at the headquarters of the National Research Council (CNR). The event brought together over 200 participants and 15 senior coordinators to discuss scientific knowledge and priorities regarding the Arctic, Antarctica, and the Third Pole (Himalayas, Karakorum, and the Tibetan Plateau).

The discussions aim to produce a White Paper that will serve as a strategic tool for Italian policy-making. This document is intended to guide future strategies for climate change adaptation and to better understand global climate dynamics through research in these critical regions.

Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini emphasized the importance of polar research, noting that these areas serve as vital scientific laboratories for studying the history of the planet and understanding current changes in climate, water, and seas.
