Italy honors anti‑mafia magistrate and debates justice reforms

The municipal council of Pigna (Italy) has tabled a motion to award honorary citizenship to Dr. Anna Canepa, a senior anti‑mafia magistrate who began her career in 1987 and has served in Caltagirone, Genoa and the National Anti‑Mafia Directorate. The proposal, backed by minority councillors Patrizia Stefani and Maurizio Oddo, highlights Canepa’s roots in Pigna and her work against organized crime and human‑trafficking.

Separately, on 17 July 2026 the Library of the Bar Association in Vibo Valentia will host a high‑profile debate titled “What remains of the just trial? Reflections on missed reforms and the crisis of the accusatorial model”. The event, organized by the local criminal law chamber and the Bar School, will feature a video‑link from Vice‑Minister of Justice Francesco Paolo Sisto, who will present the government’s view on pending justice reforms.
