Italy hosts commemorative events honoring anti-fascist history

Various commemorative initiatives in Italy are focusing on preserving the memory of the anti-fascist Resistance and its role in shaping modern democracy.

In the Mondovì region, the ‘Cammina&pedala per la Pace’ initiative has expanded into a three-week series of walking and cycling events throughout September. These events connect various partisan landmarks in Mondovì, Carrù, and Fossano, emphasizing a female-led approach to historical memory and social connection.

Additionally, a memory journey organized by ANPPIA (National Association of Italian Anti-fascist Political Persecuted) recently traced the roots of European democracy. The route traveled from the Fossoli concentration camp to the island of Ventotene, where the Ventotene Manifesto was drafted by figures such as Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto Rossi. This project aims to link historical memory with civic education and reflection on contemporary European unity.
