Italy hosts free summer stargazing and moonlit trekking events

On Friday 24 July, the park of Villa Inzoli in Tradate (Lombardy) will host a free "Grande serata sotto le stelle" organised by the local astronomical group GAT with the help of the Friends of Astronomy of Cassano Magnago. The two‑hour program will let visitors observe the Moon, which will be just past first quarter, and the Summer Triangle (Vega, Altair and Deneb) through a number of telescopes and laser pointers, with guidance from amateur astronomers. The event is open to all ages and will be cancelled only if the weather turns bad.

At the same time, a growing trend of "full‑moon tourism" is offering guided night treks across Italy. Popular routes include the high‑altitude pastures of the Lessinia, coastal walks in the Gargano, forest trails on the slopes of Vesuvius, and the wetlands of the Valli di Comacchio. These excursions let participants walk without torches under the bright moon, often accompanied by local meals or wine tastings, and are promoted as sensory experiences that showcase Italy’s landscapes in a different light.

Both activities reflect a seasonal interest in astronomy‑related leisure, combining educational outreach with tourism in various Italian regions.
