Italy hosts record‑size sailing ship and mega super yacht off its coast

The 220‑metre Orient Express Corinthian, the world’s largest sailing ship, arrived at Porto Santo Stefano in Monte Argentario. Built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in France, the hybrid‑propulsion vessel carries 54 suites for up to 110 guests and features 100‑metre rigid sails, gas‑lifted propulsion and future hydrogen capability, highlighting a push for sustainable luxury cruising.

At the nearby Ostia seafront, the 107‑metre MAR super yacht, constructed by Benetti in 2020, was seen anchored just offshore. Weighing 3,891 tonnes and powered by a Rolls‑Royce diesel‑electric system, the yacht can host up to 16 guests with a crew of 34 and is valued at roughly $200 million. High‑profile charterers have included Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, underscoring the vessel’s status among the world’s ultra‑wealthy.

Both vessels exemplify the growing presence of ultra‑luxury maritime assets along Italy’s coastline, drawing public attention and media focus.
