Italy hosts various walking festivals and peace pilgrimages
Various cultural, sporting, and peace-oriented walking events and festivals are taking place across Italy.
In the Trasimeno region, the ‘Festival dei Cammini 2026’ promotes sustainable tourism through hiking and cycling. Simultaneously, the ‘Tarsminass Genius Loci 2026’ festival features book presentations and historical discussions focused on the area's heritage.
Several peace-themed initiatives are underway, including the ‘Giro d’Italia per la Pace,’ which travels through numerous cities like Reggio Emilia and Bra to promote a culture of peace. Additionally, the ‘Cammino di Oropa della Pace’ has been established in Piedmont as a 42 km route inspired by the ‘Third Paradise’ concept. Another symbolic pilgrimage, the ‘Via Micaelica,’ is being traversed by former police officers to spread messages of fraternity.
Other regional activities include the ‘Cammino Day 2026’ in Monte Isola, involving thousands of participants in health-focused walking groups, and the ‘Road to Umbra Walking Ultramarathon’ project in Attigliano, which aims to promote local territories through walking and outdoor sports. In Turin, traveler Nicolò Guarrera is conducting a tour following his 36,000 km journey around the world.
