Italy hunting referendum signature collection falls short of quorum

The collection of signatures for two proposed repealing referendums regarding hunting in Italy has concluded with results significantly below the required threshold. According to the Ministry of Justice platform, the two proposals—aimed at banning hunting under Article 19 ter and Article 842—received 109,861 and 109,125 online signatures respectively. These figures represent approximately one-fifth of the 500,000 signatures needed to reach the quorum.

The final total remains to be determined once paper-based signatures are processed. The hunting community's steering committee, which includes national associations such as Federcaccia, Enalcaccia, and the CNCN, noted that while recent polls showed support for limiting hunting, these opinions did not translate into large-scale mobilization. Maurizio Zipponi, President of the CNCN, suggested that the low signature count indicates hunting may not be a primary social alarm for citizens.
