Italy implements migrant expulsions and faces port tensions
Italian immigration authorities have executed nine expulsion orders involving individuals from Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Albania, Cuba, and Libya. These individuals, who were held in detention centers, were transferred to various repatriation centers including Milan, Gorizia, and Potenza following convictions for crimes such as theft, drug offenses, assault, and arson.
In Sardinia, a logistical crisis has emerged at the port of Olbia. Migrants arriving from the Monastir extraordinary reception center are attempting to board ferries to leave the island, but many are being blocked. Despite having expulsion orders signed by the Cagliari Questura, these individuals—primarily Algerian nationals—are being refused boarding by ferry captains who require valid identification documents beyond the unique identification code (CUI).
This situation has led to dozens of migrants camping near the Olbia maritime station and in the historic center without adequate resources. To manage the growing public order concerns, additional police personnel are being deployed from Tempio to assist the border police in Olbia.
