Italy implements National Identification Code for short-term rentals

Italian Tourism Minister Gianmarco Mazzi announced that out of 590,291 registered short-term rental locations, 506,296 already possess a National Identification Code (CIN). The initiative aims to combat illegal rentals and tax evasion by mapping the hospitality sector and providing local authorities with tools like the “Lens” functionality to verify online listings.

The government is also working with major online platforms to implement European Regulation 1028/2024. This will facilitate systematic and periodic checks on short-term housing advertisements by connecting databases with control authorities.
