Italy implements new AI measures for industry and education

Italy is implementing new measures to integrate artificial intelligence into both the industrial and educational sectors.

Starting in June 2026, SIMEST will include AI as a strategic investment category within the 394/81 Fund. This initiative provides 200 million euros in public funding specifically aimed at helping Italian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) invest in AI technologies to enhance competitiveness and international market presence. This move aligns with broader European industrial policies and Italy's export plan.

In the educational sector, the Italian government has approved a decree to align national regulations with the European AI Act. This includes allocating 100 million euros for staff training and updating national curriculum guidelines to incorporate AI into study paths. The plan also involves creating regional technical-ethical committees to oversee AI experimentation in schools.
