Italy implements new social welfare and infrastructure projects

Various Italian municipalities and regional authorities are implementing new social welfare initiatives targeting seniors, children, and minors.

In Lombardy, the regional government has approved an additional 2.614 million euros from the Regional Social Fund. This funding is specifically designated for 322 small municipalities with populations under 5,000 to cover the costs of placing minors in residential structures, such as educational or family communities, following judicial orders.

In Rimini, the ‘Polo dei Tigli’ project is transforming historical buildings into a housing and social platform for seniors. The facility uses smart home technology, including fall sensors and emergency buttons, to support independent living while providing communal spaces to prevent isolation. Similarly, Piazza Armerina has launched the ‘Annacati’ project, a zero-cost initiative to promote physical activity and social inclusion for those over 65 through guided walks and wellness events.

Infrastructure improvements for early childhood education are also underway. In Ancona, the Alba Serena educational complex has been completed using PNRR funds, providing a new nursery for approximately 30 children. In Rottofreno, the ‘La Coccinella’ nursery has been expanded through EU NextGenerationEU funding, increasing its capacity from 42 to a potential 72 children to meet local demand.
