Italy implements various initiatives to combat gender-based violence
Various Italian regions and municipalities are launching new programs and funding to combat gender-based violence and support victims.
In the Marche region, the government has approved over 2.9 million euros for the 2026-2027 biennium to strengthen listening services, create new shelters, and support personal and professional autonomy. Similarly, the Piedmont region is allocating approximately 900,000 euros to enhance prevention, training for anti-violence centers, and support for victims of female genital mutilation.
Local initiatives include the “Valigia di Salvataggio” (Rescue Suitcase) project in Marsala, which provides essential kits containing clothing and hygiene products to women and children fleeing domestic abuse during the first 72 hours of emergency. In Padova, the State Police are undergoing specialized training through the “Riconoscere, Intervenire, Sostenere” project to improve risk assessment and victim support.
Community events are also being held to raise awareness, such as a seminar in Thiesi focused on sensitization and a meeting in Isernia where survivors and experts spoke to students about recognizing control and oppression.
