Italy implements school security checks and playground inspections

Authorities in Italy have implemented security measures across schools and public spaces to ensure safety. Between February and May, inspections were conducted in 276 schools nationwide following a joint ministerial directive by Piantedosi and Valditara. These checks, which included the use of metal detectors, aimed to prevent the introduction of dangerous objects following the death of a student at the Einaudi Institute in La Spezia.

In Naples, the Prefect has deployed mobile metal detectors and canine units at school entrances to combat both weapons and drug trafficking.

Complementary safety efforts are also being taken at the local level. In Ascoli, inspections are underway for 33 play areas and school spaces. These checks focus on the structural integrity of playground equipment, flooring, and furniture to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety standards for children.
