Italy imposes hefty fines on tourists for smoking, attire and unsafe driving

Several Italian seaside municipalities have introduced strict new regulations aimed at tourists. In the Veneto region, Jesolo now bans smoking on the entire beach, with violations punishable by a €50 fine. Similar dress‑code rules require visitors in places such as Caorle and Cavallino Treporti to wear appropriate clothing beyond swimwear, with fines ranging from €25 to €500. Venice has also tightened public‑order measures to maintain a tidy appearance in its historic centre.

Under the Italian road‑traffic code, drivers and passengers are prohibited from extending any body part outside a vehicle’s side windows. Police can fine offenders €85‑€338, and a driver who steers with only one hand while the other arm hangs out may face additional penalties. The rule is intended to reduce injury risk and improve vehicle control.

Both sets of measures target safety and public order, and they affect tourists and motorists traveling in Italy.
