Italy: Increased theft reported in Scafati and Mirano

In Scafati, Mayor Pasquale Aliberti has requested increased police presence following a series of commercial thefts over a recent weekend. While Aliberti noted a general decrease in crime statistics, he argued that recent incidents, including four commercial burglaries, indicate a need for more patrols between Cava de’ Tirreni and Scafati. The Mayor also highlighted concerns regarding the effectiveness of legal penalties for repeat offenders.

In Mirano, a local fire station has been forced to close temporarily following the theft of strategic equipment valued at over 20,000 euros. The theft occurred after a broken garage door mechanism left firefighting vehicles and tools, including chainsaws and specialized pliers, exposed in an outdoor yard. The equipment has been moved to the central headquarters in Mestre while investigations continue.
