Italy increases funding for ‘Reddito di Libertà’ to support women victims of violence
The Department for Equal Opportunities has ordered an extraordinary transfer of 3.9 million euros to Inps to bolster the ‘Reddito di Libertà’ (Freedom Income) program for 2026. This additional funding is intended to support women victims of violence who are facing economic hardship.
The decision follows assessments showing that demand in certain regions exceeded the initial 16.5 million euro allocation for 2026. The new resources will prioritize eligible applications that were previously pending due to insufficient funds.
The ‘Reddito di Libertà’ is an economic support measure designed to assist women in achieving personal, housing, and economic autonomy. Starting in 2026, the benefit has been increased to 530 euros per month for up to 12 months. To qualify, recipients must be supported by recognized anti-violence centers and social services, and be experiencing poverty linked to their situation of violence. The funds are intended to cover costs related to housing, personal autonomy, and the education or training of minor children.
