Italy industrial vehicle market grows 3.4% in September

The Italian industrial vehicle market grew by 3.4% in September, reaching 2,146 registrations compared to 2,075 in the same month of the previous year, according to UNRAE data. This growth was driven by a 22% increase in light vehicles (3.51 to 6 tons) and a 4.3% rise in heavy vehicles over 16 tons, specifically fueled by road tractors. Total registrations for the first nine months of the year reached 21,332, a 3.0% increase over the previous year.

UNRAE President Giovanni Dattoli noted that while the market's return to positive territory is encouraging, businesses require certainty regarding fleet renewal support. He emphasized the need for the implementation of the 590 million euro Extraordinary Fund for Road Transport and suggested reserving a portion of incentives for zero-emission vehicles over 16 tons to support decarbonization.

In the passenger car segment, diesel vehicle sales show a shift in market dominance. In the top ten best-selling diesel cars in Italy from January to September, the Alfa Romeo Tonale is the only Italian model represented, ranking tenth with 3,186 registrations. The diesel market is currently led by models from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen.
