Italy industrial vehicle market slows during summer 2026

The Italian industrial vehicle market, specifically for vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes, experienced a slowdown during the summer of 2026. According to data from UNRAE, July registrations remained stable at 2,863 units, a marginal 0.1% increase compared to July 2025. However, August saw a 2.5% decline, with 1,263 units registered.

Segment performance varied significantly. In July, light vehicles (3.51 to 6 tonnes) dropped by 46.7%, while vehicles in the 6.01 to 15.99 tonne range grew by 5.1%. Heavy vehicles (16 tonnes or more) saw a 2.1% increase in July. By August, both the light and medium segments experienced contractions, while the heaviest vehicles grew slightly by 1.1%.

Despite the summer deceleration, the overall market for the first eight months of 2026 remains up by 3.0% compared to the same period in 2025, totaling 19,200 registrations. Giovanni Dattoli, President of the UNRAE Industrial Vehicles Section, noted that the summer slowdown highlights the need for certainty in fleet renewal investments. He called for the Multi-year Fund for Road Transport to become operational quickly to provide companies with clear incentives and simplified procedures.
