Italy infrastructure: New road connections and overpass repairs

Infrastructure projects in Italy have reached key milestones to alleviate traffic congestion. In one region, a new connection ramp linking Via Cappuccini directly to the SS115 highway toward Trapani and Palermo has opened. This intervention aims to decongest critical points near the highway junction and provide faster access for residents and essential services following the closure of the Belvedere tunnel.

However, local challenges remain, including the pending construction of a roundabout on Via Ferraro and growing public pressure to accelerate the Belvedere tunnel construction, which is expected to last three years.

In Rome, the overpass on Via Salaria near the Motorizzazione Civile has officially reopened following a restoration project. The infrastructure was damaged in 2021 when a heavy vehicle struck the reinforced concrete beams. The repair work, managed by the Department of Infrastructure and Public Works of Roma Capitale, involved an investment of approximately 676,000 euros and included replacing damaged beams, reconstructing the concrete slab, and installing new safety barriers.
