Italy infrastructure: Tramway works in Florence and railway projects in Bologna

Major infrastructure developments are underway across Italy, involving tramway expansions and railway upgrades. In Florence, construction for the new tram line to Bagno a Ripoli has entered a new phase in Piazza Beccaria. This phase requires significant traffic modifications, including the closure of the turn from Viale Amendola to Piazza Beccaria, with traffic being rerouted through Via Gramsci and Via Scialoja until October 15.

In the Bologna-Castel Bolognese region, a project to quadruple the railway line is moving toward a decisive stage. The plan involves a 39-kilometer double-track line designed for high-speed and high-capacity standards to bolster the Adriatic corridor. While a technical meeting was held at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, local coordination committees have criticized the timeline, arguing that public input opportunities are being limited.

Simultaneously, in Bologna, the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired has filed a formal complaint regarding new urban infrastructure related to the tramway. The association highlighted safety concerns, specifically regarding new curbs protecting the tracks, which they claim have already caused falls. They cited issues such as anomalous heights, unrounded edges, and a lack of tactile indicators, requesting urgent assessments before the system becomes fully operational.
