Italy initiates 26 GHz 5G spectrum auction process

The Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) has formally initiated the procedure to assign the 26 GHz spectrum band, specifically the range between 24.25 and 26.5 GHz. The auction notice is expected to be published in the Official Gazette during the week of August 24–28, 2026.

This spectrum is harmonized at the European level for 5G and is intended to support high-capacity, low-latency transmissions. It is particularly significant for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) networks, which provide high-speed internet via radio to areas where fiber optic infrastructure is unavailable, such as hilly, rural, or semi-urban locations.
