Italy initiatives address gender inequality and pay gap
Various initiatives in Italy are targeting gender discrimination and the gender pay gap in the workforce. In Cesena, the Uil union has organized a solidarity walk titled “Il tuo No diventa Noi” scheduled for October 24 in Ponte Abbadesse. The event aims to support women facing workplace challenges, such as denied part-time requests, unwanted advances, and pregnancy-related discrimination. Registration proceeds will benefit the Women in Run Cesena association, which combats gender violence and supports equality projects.
In Brescia, the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Municipality, in collaboration with the University of Brescia and several trade unions, is hosting a meeting titled “Gender Pay Gap and local occupational dynamics.” This event follows a report highlighting significant occupational and wage inequalities in the Brescia region. Despite the area's economic productivity, data shows lower female employment rates, higher reliance on part-time work, unequal distribution of caregiving responsibilities, and limited career advancement opportunities for women.
