Italy internet users exceed 47 million as desktop usage drops

According to Comscore data for August 2026, the number of unique internet users in Italy has surpassed 47 million, representing a 3% increase from July. Despite the growing user base, the average intensity of use saw a slight contraction of 0.5%, totaling 78 hours and 14 minutes per user.

The data reveals a significant shift in how Italians access the internet. Desktop usage plummeted by 16.5% compared to July, likely due to the summer closure of offices and schools. Conversely, mobile usage saw a slight increase of 1%, adding approximately 47 minutes of engagement per user.

On a year-over-year basis, total time spent online increased by 14.9% compared to August 2025, driven by a 16.7% boom in mobile usage which offset a 3.6% decline in desktop use. Among major international platforms, Amazon saw a 6% growth in unique users, while Meta recorded an increase of approximately 45 minutes in average time spent per visitor.
