Italy introduces new forest management initiatives and the Florence Charter

New strategic initiatives have been launched in Italy to enhance the protection and sustainable management of forest ecosystems. In Isola del Liri, the municipal council is reviewing the 2025-2035 Forest Management and Adjustment Plan (PGAF). This ten-year strategy focuses on the chestnut woods of Selva Alta and Colle Pagnotta, aiming to safeguard biodiversity, maintain infrastructure, and prevent forest fires. The plan also seeks to promote ecotourism by creating rest areas and spaces for educational and recreational activities.

On a national level, the Florence Charter for Forests has been introduced by the NGO Fsc Italia. Presented at Palazzo Vecchio, the Charter serves as a cooperative platform to renew the strategic value and management of Italy's forest heritage. The initiative emphasizes the historical connection between Italian architecture and local woodlands while establishing commitments for various societal actors to address the climate crisis and ensure the long-term health of forest resources.
