Italy issues alert on phishing scams using fake road‑fine notices and SPID identity theft

The Polizia Postale has warned that new phishing campaigns are sending messages that mimic official notices for unpaid road fines. The fraudulent emails include seemingly authentic details such as licence plates and case numbers and direct recipients to counterfeit payment websites that resemble legitimate platforms.

Separately, the Agency for Digital Italy (Cert‑AgID) has highlighted a “second SPID” fraud. Criminal groups steal personal documents and selfies, then exploit a system weakness that permits multiple SPID accounts for the same tax code. By creating a duplicate SPID, they can access public‑administration portals, alter banking details and divert tax refunds and other benefits to themselves. Authorities advise users to verify URLs, avoid urgent payment requests, and report any suspicious communications.
