Italy labor market: Wages struggle to offset inflation

Research from Ires Cgil indicates that wage growth for employees in certain Italian territories is failing to keep pace with inflation. Data shows that 25% of citizens in ten specific municipalities earn less than 15,000 euros annually.

There is a narrowing gap between the average income of workers and pensioners, with a difference of less than 2,000 euros. This trend has led to pensioners increasingly acting as a financial safety net for younger generations, often covering costs such as housing or healthcare that the current socio-sanitary system struggles to provide. While local manufacturing and mechanical cooperatives continue to invest in innovation, there are calls for national and local public administrators to implement new responses to protect regional economic well-being.
