Italy launches comic guide for young caregivers and outlines tax benefits for elderly care

A new initiative in Italy uses a comic‑book format to give visibility to young caregivers who look after family members such as parents, grandparents or siblings. The project, created by the nonprofit Anziani e non solo, the Fondazione ANT “Franco Pannuti” and artist Kangjano with funding from the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Carpi, follows three fictional characters—Luca, Olga and Tania—to illustrate the physical fatigue, social isolation and life‑plan disruptions they face. The campaign also supplies a brochure with practical tips for teachers, educators and families on how to identify and support young caregivers.

In parallel, Italian tax regulations provide relief for families incurring costs for elderly assistance. When filing the Model 730, taxpayers can claim a 19 % tax credit on wages paid to domestic caregivers and deduct social‑security contributions to the INPS from taxable income. The rules distinguish between direct tax credits (reducing the IRPEF owed) and deductions (lowering the taxable base), allowing both measures to be combined for maximum savings, provided the expenses are correctly classified.
