Italy launches digital and accessibility initiatives for cultural heritage sites

Italian cultural heritage sites are implementing new digital and accessibility initiatives. In Tivoli, the ‘Experience the Beauty’ project aims to transform the area into a laboratory for cultural accessibility by 2026. The initiative focuses on using new technologies to overcome barriers and provide multisensory experiences for people with disabilities, covering sites ranging from Villa Adriana to Villa d’Este.

In Tuscany, a digital valorization project is being presented to enhance the accessibility and storytelling of the Medici villas and gardens. Through the ‘Cultura Toscana’ portal, researchers are using historical drawings, maps, and photographs to reconstruct the artistic history of 29 villas, including 14 UNESCO World Heritage sites. This project involves collaboration between several major institutions, including the Uffizi Galleries and the State Archives.
