Italy launches first National Wine Landscape Day
The first Italian Wine Landscape Day (Giornata del Paesaggio Vitivinicolo Italiano) begins on October 20, running through October 25. Promoted by the international association Iter Vitis Italia, the event is themed ‘Paesaggi di vite. Paesaggi di vita’ (Landscapes of vine. Landscapes of life).
The initiative involves 12 regions and 19 provinces across Italy, featuring 30 distinct activities including scientific conferences, guided tours, cultural itineraries, wine tourism experiences, exhibitions, and educational workshops. The program aims to highlight the wine landscape as a vital cultural, environmental, and productive heritage that connects history, biodiversity, and local communities.
The inaugural events take place in Sambuca di Sicilia, the birthplace of Iter Vitis, featuring educational visits to the Vigneto Cana and public meetings regarding the relationship between landscape and local development. The nationwide program spans diverse territories, including the Cinque Terre, Langhe, Franciacorta, Chianti, Maremma, Irpinia, Vulture, and Pantelleria, showcasing everything from heroic viticulture terraces to volcanic vineyards.
