Italy launches initiative to manage immunoglobulin supply
A new initiative titled ‘The strategic value of immunoglobulins: a systemic challenge for Italy and Europe’ has been launched to address the management and supply of human immunoglobulins. These plasma-derived medicines are classified by the World Health Organization as essential for treating various rare, chronic, and immunomediated conditions, including immunodeficiencies and neurological or autoimmune diseases.
The project aims to foster multi-stakeholder dialogue involving clinicians, public decision-makers, hospital pharmacists, and patient associations. The initiative will utilize preliminary surveys and focus groups to examine evolving demand, access criticalities, and organizational solutions. The process is expected to culminate in a Position Paper to be presented in Rome this November, offering recommendations for more sustainable and efficient management of these life-saving therapies.
