Italy launches new school and urban health promotion initiatives

New health promotion initiatives are being launched in Italy targeting both educational environments and urban planning. In Ferrara, the ‘Scuole che promuovono salute’ (Schools that promote health) program will present a new catalog for the 2026/27 school year. This program, coordinated by local health services including Ausl and the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Ferrara, offers prevention and wellness activities designed for students, teachers, and parents.

On a national scale, the ‘Generazione città sane’ (Healthy Cities Generation) project has been announced by the Italian Network of Healthy Cities – World Health Organization. Running from October 2026 to January 2027, this initiative invites university students and recent graduates to participate in a national laboratory. The goal is to develop ‘Quaderni per le città sane’ (Notebooks for healthy cities), practical documents to help municipalities implement urban policies that improve public health through better environmental conditions, social relations, and accessibility.
