Italy youth volunteering and civil service initiatives expand
Various community and social initiatives involving youth volunteering and civil service are launching across Italy. In several regions, the Universal Civil Service (SCU) is mobilizing young people for diverse roles.
In Sicily, the Misericordia organizations in Mazara del Vallo and Paternò are welcoming new volunteers to support community services, including healthcare assistance and social aid. Additionally, 54 young volunteers have begun working at the Archaeological Park and Valley of the Aci to assist with cultural heritage sites.
Other regional developments include the start of civil service projects in Saracena and the involvement of the National Fire Corps (Vigili del Fuoco) in Ancona and Fermo, focusing on safety and historical preservation. In Puglia, Bari has officially presented its candidacy to become the Italian Capital of Volunteering for 2028.
Other specialized programs are also underway, such as the WomenLens Erasmus+ project in Avellino aimed at gender equality and the Mentor Program in Varese, which pairs adult volunteers with students to prevent school dropout.
