Italy launches three new nursing master’s programs as nurse violence issue highlighted

The University of Pisa announced three new specialised master’s degrees for nurses and midwives, covering intensive‑care and emergency nursing, primary‑care and community nursing, and obstetrics. The two‑year programmes accept 25 students each (75 in total) and enrolments open on 8 July for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Rector Riccardo Zucchi said the courses respond to a recent regulatory change and to the crucial role nurses play in emergency departments and community health.

At the same time, nursing graduate Elisabetta Brescia completed a thesis titled “Violence against nurses in critical care: the state of the art”. The work analyses physical and psychological aggression faced by critical‑care nurses and calls for greater awareness and prevention. Brescia seeks publication of her findings to inform the nursing profession and the wider public.
