Italy leads in anti-PCSK9 monoclonal antibody therapy implementation

During the Cardiacto 2026 Congress, Pasquale Perrone Filardi, Past President of the Italian Society of Cardiology, highlighted the effectiveness of anti-PCSK9 monoclonal antibodies in reducing LDL cholesterol levels.

Perrone Filardi noted that Italian clinical studies demonstrate that a ‘fast track’ approach—providing rapid access to this therapy during hospitalization—drastically reduces cholesterol levels during a patient's period of maximum vulnerability. This strategy has been linked to a reduction in cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality.

According to Perrone Filardi, Italy is a global leader in implementing this strategy for high-risk patients, utilizing a collaborative network of cardiology centers. This approach aligns with the latest 2025 clinical guidelines.
