Italy tourism hits record 276 million presences in summer 2026
Italy recorded a record-breaking summer tourism season in 2026. According to data from Tourism Minister Gianmarco Mazzi, the country saw over 276 million presences and 72.4 million arrivals between June and August, marking a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
The growth was driven by both domestic and international travelers, with foreign overnight stays increasing by 4.4% and domestic stays by 2.7%. A key indicator of this demand was the Online Travel Agency (OTA) saturation rate, which reached 61.8%, significantly outpacing competitors like Spain (54.7%) and France (45.6%).
Regionally, Trentino led with the highest OTA saturation rate at 67.3%, followed by Sardinia (67.2%) and Friuli-Venezia Giulia (66.3%). Liguria also performed strongly, with an occupancy rate of 62.5%, exceeding the national average. The positive trend extended into September, with an overall saturation rate of 56.2%.
