Italy lottery: Maremma sees 6 million euro in winnings amid fraud attempt
In the Maremma region of Italy, scratch card winnings have reached nearly 6 million euros. Data from Lotterie Nazionali shows that 16 prizes of at least 20,000 euros were distributed across 11 municipalities. The majority of these winnings, totaling over 5 million euros, were concentrated in Grosseto and Orbetello. Grosseto recorded the highest amount with over 3 million euros, including a 2 million euro prize won in 2021.
Separately, a 50-year-old man is facing trial for attempted fraud after trying to claim a fake prize of over 10 million euros. The individual allegedly used adhesive tape to join two losing 'Il Miliardario Maxi' scratch cards to create a counterfeit winning ticket. The fraud was detected by the Lotterie Nazionali prize office when officials noticed physical anomalies and realized the claimed prize amount was not even a possible payout for that specific lottery game.
