Italy maintains global leadership in pasta production and exports
Italy has reaffirmed its position as the global leader in pasta production, consumption, and exports. In 2025, the country produced approximately 4.2 million tonnes, leading major producers such as Turkey, the United States, and Egypt. Italian per capita consumption also remains the highest in the world at 23.1 kg annually.
Export data shows a strong international orientation, with 2025 exports totaling over 2.45 million tonnes valued at approximately 3.97 billion euros. The first half of 2026 has seen a further volume increase of 2.7% compared to the same period in 2025. Key export markets include Germany, the United States, France, and the United Kingdom.
To celebrate this sector, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced the establishment of the ‘World Italian Pasta Day,’ which will be promoted annually through Italian embassies and consulates. This announcement coincided with the presentation of the 28th World Pasta Day in Rome, organized by Unione Italiana Food and the International Pasta Organisation.
