Italy managed assets exceed 1 trillion euros

Managed assets in Italy have surpassed the 1,000 billion euro threshold. According to an analysis by the Unimpresa study center, total assets managed by banks, investment firms, and asset management companies (SGR) reached 1,083.4 billion euros by the end of 2025, representing a 20.1% increase from 901.9 billion euros in 2022.

In the first quarter of 2026, managed assets stood at 1,073.2 billion euros. While this reflects a slight decrease of 0.9% compared to December 2025, the total remains significantly above the 1,000 billion euro mark.

The data highlights a shift in how assets are distributed among intermediaries. Bank-managed assets saw substantial growth, rising from 115.3 billion euros in 2022 to 247.5 billion euros at the end of 2025, and reaching 252.8 billion euros by March 2026. Despite this surge, SGRs remain the dominant channel, managing over 800 billion euros. Portfolio compositions as of March 2026 included 332.4 billion euros in foreign bonds, 304.2 billion euros in foreign funds, and 254.5 billion euros in Italian government securities, with BTPs accounting for 242.2 billion euros.
