Italy mandates qualified technicians for fire safety maintenance by 2026
New regulations in Italy will mandate that fire safety maintenance in residential buildings be performed exclusively by qualified technicians starting September 25, 2026. This marks the end of a transitional period established by the Ministry of the Interior's September 2021 decree.
Under the new rules, maintenance and inspections of fire safety equipment—including extinguishers, hydrant systems, fire alarms, fire doors, and smoke evacuation systems—must be carried out by personnel holding specific qualification certificates. This requirement affects condominium administrators, property owners, and safety managers, who must ensure that all scheduled interventions are assigned to appropriately certified professionals.
