Italy marks second anniversary of Solfagnano Charter for disability rights

Two years after the signing of the Solfagnano Charter, Italy's Minister for Disabilities, Alessandra Locatelli, has reviewed the progress made following the first G7 dedicated to Inclusion and Disability. The Charter, established in 2024, commits participating nations to ensuring the full exercise of rights for people with disabilities across social, cultural, economic, and political spheres.

During a session of the National Observatory on the Condition of Persons with Disabilities, Locatelli emphasized that the Charter is a starting point rather than a final goal. Key areas of ongoing work include accessibility, employment inclusion, independent living, and the quality of services. Efforts are also being directed toward reforming institutional language to prioritize human dignity and implementing concrete projects such as the ‘Vita e Opportunità’ initiative.

Locatelli stressed the importance of keeping disability at the top of global political agendas, noting that the path toward a cultural and civil revolution regarding disability rights is firmly established and must continue on both national and international levels.
