Italy marriage trends: Abruzzo stability vs rising costs

Recent studies in Italy highlight shifting dynamics in marriage, ranging from psychological stability to rising economic pressures. In the Abruzzo region, couples are noted for being among the most stable in the country, according to research by the online magazine ‘Spot and Web’ involving 50 psychologists. The study suggests that seasonal changes, such as decreasing daylight and temperature drops, can impact relationship stability by increasing irritability, anxiety, and insomnia.

Simultaneously, the financial burden of weddings has increased significantly. Data from a study commissioned by Facile.it and mUp Research shows that wedding costs for the 2022-2025 period have nearly doubled compared to the 1980s. Expenses such as catering, photography, attire, and floral arrangements contribute to high budgets, leading approximately 21% of those who gave up on marriage to cite economic reasons. Furthermore, over 70% of couples reported needing financial assistance or loans to fund their ceremonies.
