Italy migration policy faces criticism over Sardinia centers and Spanish border controls
Political tensions are rising in Italy regarding the management of migrant flows and border security. In Sardinia, the Five Star Movement (M5S) has accused the Meloni government of abandoning the region. The criticism follows unrest at a reception center for foreign minors in Cabras, where local authorities reported thefts, damage, and assaults. M5S regional coordinator Alessandro Solinas also highlighted severe overcrowding in Monastir, where approximately 800 people are reportedly housed in a facility designed for 300.
Simultaneously, Angelo Bonelli, leader of the Greens and Left Alliance (AVS), has criticized the government's decision to extend border controls with Spain. Bonelli argued that the move is a political tactic to fuel migration fears rather than a response to actual security threats, noting that authorities in Madrid and Brussels have stated that migrants arriving at Ceuta are not entering Spain. He warned that these actions risk destabilizing the Schengen Area and weakening European unity.
