Italy moves to end vehicle seizure for tax‑debtor drivers

The Italian Senate has received a bill, presented by Senator Massimo Garavaglia on 23 June, that seeks to abolish the administrative vehicle seizure (fermo amministrativo) used to pressure taxpayers with tax debts. The proposal would replace the seizure with other credit‑protection tools, arguing that the current measure hampers workers who rely on their cars for employment and can hinder debt repayment.

At the same time, Italian tax advisers highlight a legal option for businesses and self‑employed professionals to lower their 2026 tax advance payments (acconti) for income tax, corporate tax and substitute taxes. By adopting a forecast‑based calculation rather than the traditional historical method, taxpayers can align payments with current earnings and avoid over‑paying, provided the projections are accurate and documented.

Both measures aim to ease cash‑flow pressures on taxpayers while maintaining the Treasury’s ability to collect revenues.
