Italy named Best European Tourist Destination at Danish Travel Awards 2026

Italy has been named the ‘Best Tourist Destination to Visit in Europe’ at the Danish Travel Awards 2026. The award, decided by the preferences of Danish travelers, was presented in Copenhagen during the 29th edition of the event.

Representatives from the Italian Ministry of Tourism and ENIT S.p.A., including CEO Ivana Jelinic and Ambassador Giuliana Del Papa, accepted the recognition. The award highlights a growing trend of North European travelers visiting Italy.

Economic data from 2025 indicates significant growth in the Danish market. According to ENIT studies based on ISTAT data, Italian accommodations saw approximately 815,000 arrivals from Denmark and nearly 3.8 million overnight stays. This represents an 11.8% increase in arrivals and a 15.7% increase in overnight stays compared to 2024. Total tourism spending by Danish travelers in Italy reached approximately 640 million euros.
