Italy Under-21 secures late win in Armenia to stay in Euro qualifying race

The Italy Under-21 national football team secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Armenia in Yerevan during a UEFA Euro Under-21 qualifying match. The decisive goal was scored in the 95th minute by AC Milan player Alphadjo Cisse, who capitalized on a rebound following a save by Armenian goalkeeper Ghazaryan.

Despite several missed opportunities, including a missed penalty by Koleosho and hitting the woodwork twice, the win keeps Italy’s hopes alive for topping Group E. The team currently sits at 24 points, three points behind leaders Poland. To secure direct qualification for the 2027 European Championship, Italy must defeat Poland by at least a two-goal margin in their upcoming head-to-head match in Pescara on Monday, October 5.

Coach Silvio Baldini utilized several tactical changes, including the introduction of Cisse, which proved transformative for the Italian attack. If they fail to win the direct clash, Italy still maintains a path to qualification as one of the best-performing runners-up in the group stages.
