Italy: New immigration agency proposals and local migrant protection networks
Patto per il Nord has proposed a new national immigration and integration agency to replace current emergency-based management. The proposal includes coordinating various administrations to manage flows, entry procedures, and international protection. A key component is linking immigration entries to the specific labor needs of the productive system, while ensuring integration through verifiable language skills and civic knowledge.
In the Province of Rieti, new standard operating procedures have been approved to improve the reception and protection of vulnerable migrants. Following Ministry of the Interior guidelines, the initiative establishes a local network involving institutional and non-institutional entities. This network aims to coordinate care and integration for individuals facing vulnerabilities such as mental health issues, disability, or being victims of trafficking and violence.
