Italy observes XIII Giornata della Memoria e dell’Accoglienza

Various Italian locations are participating in the XIII Giornata della Memoria e dell’Accoglienza, an initiative promoted by the Comitato 3 Ottobre to honor victims of Mediterranean migration and promote awareness of refugee rights.

In Lampedusa, the event titled ‘Voci del Mediterraneo’ (Voices of the Mediterranean) features workshops, meetings, and educational activities for students from Italy and Europe. The program focuses on dialogue between migrants, witnesses, and new generations regarding human rights and inclusion. The observance concludes on October 3, marking the anniversary of the 2013 shipwreck near Lampedusa that resulted in 368 deaths.

In Castellammare di Stabia, Palazzo Farnese will be illuminated in orange to symbolize solidarity. The color orange was chosen to represent the smoke flares used by migrants in distress. This symbolic gesture serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives seeking a better future and highlights the collective responsibility toward migration and hospitality.
